"Once being announced as a finalist in a category, the nerves start to kick in and especially when you find out what other businesses are finalists in your category. Like other years that we have participated and been successful in claiming an award, we have gone up against some amazing businesses which always makes hearing our business name announced as the winner somewhat surreal. No matter how many years you enter and how many awards successfully won, that moment never gets old.
To hear the clapping and cheering from the full house is an endorsement of all the hard work invested in our business being acknowledged, followed by the trophy that we can bring back, put on display and be proud of.
There is a level of respect to all the businesses that participate across the awards, knowing that committing the time is one thing, putting you and your business out there is another, and last but not least, sitting in a room of 200 people that are there to celebrate the brilliance of our Marlborough Business Community is fantastic.
To be recognised by the Chamber, the judges, and the award process means everything to us. We operate with a set of core values that we have created, guiding us to be the best we can be. For ourselves as owners, our team, and our extended Mag & Turbo family around the country, knowing that we have done enough to hold our heads high with the accolade of “Excellence in Retail and Professional Services” is something to behold.
It is well beyond earning bragging rights, it is validation that the work we do to try to be the best in the business by going the extra mile for our customers is appreciated and noticed.
Although it is important to crunch metrics and numbers to measure business success, an award like this translates success in a form that some who do not care much for those statistics can understand and know that their contribution as part of our team is relevant in our success. It becomes another chapter in our story that we can be proud of."

Lawson’s Dry Hills has long placed environmental sustainability at the heart of everything they do, and it’s fantastic to see their dedication formally recognised at this year’s Business Excellence Awards. As their General Manager notes, this award reflects the way they have always approached business, prioritising sustainability not for accolades, but because it’s simply the right way to work.
This award also highlights the strength of Lawson’s Dry Hills’ team. Winning in this category reinforces that the work we do truly matters and makes a difference.
For our team, this recognition is more than an award, it’s a validation of our commitment to inclusivity and respect for Te Whare Tapa Whā and all it encompasses. It highlights our belief that equality is not a gift but a right, and that every young person deserves the opportunity to achieve, regardless of their circumstances or financial barriers.
