Marlborough Chamber of Commerce
Supporting Your Business in Marlborough
Setting a New Direction
Advocating on behalf of members is a key role for the Chamber, and we are keen to position the Chamber as a lead on all key issues facing members. We want to ensure we have a productive relationship with local and central government so that when issues hit the media, we already know and are supportive of the initiative. The Chamber doesn’t want to be in a position where we are at odds, and the only way to do this is to work alongside the decision makers early and constructively.
The Chamber also wants to be known as the first point of contact for business networking opportunities and have close and effective working relationships with key business agencies. We are working hard to bring you a range of topical speakers and Business After Fives where you can meet many other local businesses.
Business Development and Training
The Chamber is also working to ensure there is an appropriate level of business education and information to support the needs members. We want to connect economic development issues to the interests of our members, and to partner with key educational providers to create the environment for business education.
Another aspect of the Chamber’s service is to assist members to trade and export through the provision of export certification documentation. Trade is a critically important part of Marlborough’s economic success, so it is important the Chamber is enabling in this space. All of these areas of focus will ultimately provide maximum benefits for Chamber members. We continue to explore additional value opportunities and discounts.
A word from our President
At the Marlborough Chamber, we are passionate about challenging business to improve.
It’s beneficial for the community, the Marlborough economy and individuals, to drive this continuous improvement. Good leadership in business is critical for success, and good leaders need a great team supporting them.
A key focus this year is for the Chamber to be able to provide new training opportunities to up-skill these leaders, and their future potential leaders. We’re working towards this by offering three Express Workshops a month, as well as some new full day Workshops from experts dealing with Health & Safety, Soft Skills for Management, Customer Service (Kiwihost), and Leadership and Business Development. Please reach out to Kathryn if your business can benefit from this training and see if you are eligible for capability funding.
Our other key focus this year is to advocate for the future workforce of Marlborough, with our involvement in the Regional Skills Leadership Group and the Smart + Connected Labour and Skills Group. We also have Chris Shaw who works in the Chamber as our Education to Employment Broker. He engages with the youth, schools and businesses to build a better understanding of careers, business needs and to schools and youth in Marlborough – feel free to give us any feedback you might have in this area, and feel free to reach out to Chris if you want to find out more.
